UrsaTheBear
I fell immediately in love with this beautiful sculpture made by David Weeks when I first saw it on Anothersomething. Now, I am very proud to have Ursa the Bear in my collection of beautiful objects. A true treasure!

Ursa the Bear was created to be your friend and protector. She is strong and wise, with the muscles of a grizzly and the gentle nature of a Mama Bear. She’ll watch over you, and she loves to play too. Ursa is made out of Sustainably-harvested new growth beech wood and is more than 34 cm high (in standing position). Her powerful hardwood frame can hold many poses. Her elastic-band muscles and durable wood limbs make her almost impervious to breakage.

You can find Ursa the Bear via Anothershop.

INCHfurniture

INCHfurniture was established in 2004 by Thomas Wüthrich and Yves Raschle. For some time already they are intensively occupied with the construction and design of furniture made of solid wood. For all their furniture, they use teak. A valuable wood with high durability.

In Indonesia, there are primary rain forests of enormous expanse. However, large parts of these forests have already disappeared due to ruthless clearing. Timber is very important as an export commodity for Indonesia and a vital resource for life there. If these clearings are not stopped, the country is heading for an economic and ecological catastrophe. Only a sustainable forestry that involves the local population can counteract this development.

That’s why they believe the best preservation of tropical rainforest is its sustainable use. So they obtain their timber from a select forestry enterprise near to their production site. This enterprise operates teak plantations according to sustainability standards, so that they will still be of use to subsequent generations. The production of their furniture is carried out by the fabrication workshop of an Indonesian vocational school for wood-work, where every year around 75 apprentices are educated as carpenters, draughtsmen and furniture designers.

TravelersNotebook

When I was traveling through the city of Amsterdam I found this lovely Japanese Midori Traveler’s Notebook. A simple notebook focusing on ease of writing, with a leather cover in which the texture gets better as you use it over time.

The leather covers are made by hand in Thailand. The notebook inside uses an original paper material by Midori, developed in the pursuit of the ease of writing and made carefully in Japan. A special feeling is created based on the harmony between the primitive texture from Tailand and the sensitivity from Japan. Once you grab this notebook, you will undoubtedly want to go on a trip. Available in Amsterdam at Tenue de Nîmes or online at Anothershop.
